Post-Presidency
After his presidency, Hoover was ridiculed by many a American for his role in putting down the bonus army. He was seen as the worst president ever, even though he tried to fix the economy (much like Obama today), and Congress stopping his every move to fix the problem. He decided to run again in order to fix the economy. The American public hated him at that time so most voted for the New York governor and secretary of the Navy under Wilson, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The democrats won a landslide victory over the republicans with an electoral vote of 472 to 59. The disgraced Hoover left the White House to continue his relief efforts in impoverished areas. He even met Adolf Hitler and adamantly opposed the Lend Lease act. After World War II, Harry Truman sent Hoover to give out relief effors to war devastated Europe. Ironically, he traveled in the staff car that Luftwaffe (German air force) Marshall, Herman Goering. His last major public appearance was at John F. Kennedy's inauguration in 1960.
Herbert "Bert" Hoover Died in New York City on Oct 20, 1964 at the ripe old age of 90.
He eventually redeemed himself by his tireless efforts to relieve those who needed help.
